In The New Paganism #TimothySnyder tackles the notorious question. What is going on? Why Brexit, Trump, invasion to Ukraine when it makes no sense? When it is irrational. And gives an answer by a correspondence to the pagan world. His answer doesn't rely on the rationality of "them" similar to "our" rationality. But it is still an answer which gives "us" a rational explanation: Aha, "they" are pagans. That makes sense. I believe, "we" should give less energy to trying understand "them" (as rational actors or as pagans) and that "we" should give more energy to understanding "us", to formulating what "we" are, what are "our" political goals, to finding a realising ways to realise "our" goals / "ourselves"(?).

Hm. Well, I try not to have an opinion on almost anything. #TimothySnyder mentions in the lecture there is some scietific research in this area. I am not an expert in the field. And of course, statistics means "not everyone" 🙂
